ZANU PF UK rubbishes Tobaiwa Mudede’s suggestion on scrapping dual citizenship

ZANU PF UK has rubbished Registrar General Tobaiwa Mudede’s propositions that the dual Citizenship enshrined in the new constitution must be

scrapped because it poses a security threat to the country as unreasonable and militating against the Zimbabweans in diaspora assisting their country economical through remittance of their money back home.

Mudede told Zanu PF parliamentary caucus that the government was not having plans to align the Citizenship Act to the new constitution but to seek

modalities to scrap the dual citizenship on security threats grounds.

“Zimbabwe has a Diaspora Directorate. Only a few days ago the RBZ was talking up Diaspora Remittances. This is a recognition of contribution of

the citizens who are scattered around the world to the economy of their Mother country,” Zanu PF UK said.

“But for anyone to be able to stay in a foreign country, they need to regularise their stay there. That includes taking citizenship so they can’t

be encumbered by restrictions. This is Citizenship for convenience but all these people remain Zimbabwean at heart and culture and loyalty which is

why they Remit so much back home.”

The ruling party’s chapter said to try to disenfranchise them for some pathetic excuse such as those advanced by Tobaiwa Mudede is not only stone

aged regression, it is counterproductive.

“We are not going back there. If one accepts that there is a Diaspora then they have to accept that legal status include naturalisation,” Stephen Jakes. bulawayo24.
